AWE JOINS FORCES WITH KRC AND FIGHTS FOR WILD DOG PROTECTION IN THE KGALAGADI, BOTSWANA
Our goal is to have a fully functional and equipped “wild dog unit” that is completely focused on high quality conservation research in wild dogs while implementing conservation actions that help wild dogs and in turn help communities. Our reach will extend up from the Kgalagadi into the CKGR and surrounding arid areas.

1
-
We will strive to determine, how many packs range within the Kgalagadi WMAs and the KTP, the size and composition of the packs, and which packs move within village farming areas and how often
2
-
We will determine which habitats/areas and resources are important for wild dogs.
-
We will determine if packs den and where and the survival rate of pups.
-
We will get a basic understanding of dispersal in the context of wild dogs coming into conflict
with famers.
3
-
Spend considerable time and resources looking for wild dogs to take ID picture of them and, when appropriate, be in a position to bring in a vet to dart pack members to get satellite collars onto some animals.
-
Deploy camera traps to get ID pictures of wild dogs.
-
Record locations of wild dog spoor and actual sightings.
-
Make direct observations of wild dogs and locate den sites
-
Collate all the information collected effectively and conduct the appropriate analysis and
-
dissemination.
